George Gobel in Kanab, Utah; must go along with the other two marked
Kanab for this month. Earl must have been doing the stunts on this one.
But, there is nothing in Gobel's filmography on the IMDB that can jive
with this one, so if anyone out there can tell us what this is, it would
be great.
Per
Filly: 1963, the George Gobel pic. It was suggested that it is a Daniel
Boone, but didn't George do a Wagon Train where he played a guy in a
wind wagon? Just straight from memory, but it sorta rings a bell.
After
some more research, thanks to Filly, I think we can id this picture.
The only "Wagon Train" episode listed for George is 1957,
too early to be this photo, but while looking that up I noticed there
is a "Death Valley Days" episode listed in Gobel's credits
for September 1963; the IMDB has 1952 listed, the wrong year, on this
episode. The episode was called "Thar She Blows," and that
is a much better fit for this picture; the idea that he drove a wind
wagon seems to fit that name. And, "Death Valley Days" was
filmed in Kanab, so that seems to seal the id.

Dick Peabody and Vic Morrow on the Combat! sidelines
Per
Christine Bacro: I'm pretty sure the person seated next to Vic in pic
16 is Dick Peabody (Littlejohn).
Per
Lynne Tremblay: In Sept. 1963, pic. no. 14, the man sitting next to
Vic Morrow is Dick Peabody.

Per Filly: Anatomy of a Patrol. The men are coming down that hill with
the funny foliage that is seen in so many eps, like "The Volunteer"
and spot the plane ahead...right next to the lake.
Per
Green Recruit: October 1963, picture 3 is a P-38 from the episode 'Anatomy
of a Patrol' as Filly has already
stated
|
|
4
Per Filly: Anatomy of a Patrol. It is Vic,
Dick, William Sargent (Blocker), and Jack. When they cross the river,
Saunders tells Littlejohn, Blocker, and Kirby to come with him. Then they
shove off in the boat.

Rick, Pierre and several others. I was not sure if Earl took this at
an angle, or exactly what was going on, so it's an odd-looking pic.
Per
Green Recruit: October 1963, picture 5 is the strange looking one that
appears to be at an angle. TG, this was shot at Bronson Canyon and the
guys are from top to bottom: Pierre, Jack, Rick and Dick. (can't tell
the one at the very bottom but it could be a crew member) This is from
the episode "Thunder From the Hill." Marty
has a similar photo also from Earl Parker IIRC. We spent many hours
at Bronson Canyon trying to find the exact location by using the rock
formations in the background as a guide. (Why do you think we're COIs?)
We finally located the spot and discovered that the guys were no more
than five to ten feet off the canyon floor! The camera can certainly
be deceptive

See description of picture to the right. This is Pierre
Jalbert and Jack Hogan, in the same Bronson Canyon location and at the
same time, taken from a different angle.
Per
Dodger: October 1963, Photos #6, #15% and 16%. All these were taken
at
Bronson Canyon during the filming of "Thunder from the Hills".
See
Green Recruit's comments under Photo #5 about the camera angles and
tricks used to give the impression of a greater height.

Per Dodger: October 1963, Photos #19%
and 21%. Both show another view of the P-38 Lightning fighter owned
by MGM and seen in the episode "Anatomy of a Patrol". MGM
owned an assortment of WWII aircraft bodies used for filming and sold
all of them at auction in the 70's. This scene was filmed near the large
`lake' on Lot #2. For a connection, look at Photo #12, September 1963.
That photo shows Earl Parker standing in front of the `lake' with a
river steamboat on the left side of the picture. Note the brown, two
story `colonial style' building in the background between Earl and the
steamboat. The same building is seen in the upper left of the P-38 in
Photo 19%, October 1963.

Per Green Recruit: # 1 appears to be the members of the special effects
group as the closest guy has his safety shield raised.
Per
Lynne Tremblay: I do believe that it's Emmett Bergholtz. He's a cinematographer
who came in for season two after the departure of Robert Hauser. Emmet
Bergholz is also credited as being the Director of Photography, starting
with season two.

Per Dodger: Photos 1, 2, and 3 from December 1963 are from "Counter
Punch" and features MGM's steam locomotive. Engine #11 is the ex-Virginia
and Truckee Railroad locomotive
"Reno', which ran elegant passenger trains between Reno, Carson City
and Virginia City, Nevada from the late 1880's to mid 1930's. Many of
the V&T locos, freight cars and passenger equipment was sold in 1937(?)
to the movie
studios to help raise money to keep the railroad alive. After years of
service at MGM, "Reno" was sold to Old Tucson in Arizona, where
I believe it is still available for movie work.
